In music history, Grace VanderWaal emphasizes the importance of individuality.

Grace Vanderwaal was named a Billboard Women in Music Rising Star on Thursday.

Grace VanderWaal is having the best year of her life. Since winning America's Got Talent, the 13-year-old singer has published her debut album, Just the Beginning, embarked on a headlining tour, and was named one of Billboard's 21 Under 21 artists to watch.

VanderWaal's extraordinary run as Billboard's Rising Star is coming to a close at the 2017 Women in Music event.

VanderWaal spoke with Billboard on the substance of diversity and individuality in composition ahead of the event, which will be streamed live on Twitter by 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT on Thursday.

"It's not really so much anymore like the generic pop star," she says. "It's kind of like somebody can be could you repeat that? They aspire, and it's such a beautiful, beautiful message."

She elaborates on this thought, adage with the intention of America's Got Talent was ordinarily renowned pro breeding the then pop sensation. "It was really tricky to say with the intention of I'm vacant to be me right through this process, and I think it's probably easier to sort out with the intention of currently than in the earlier period... Era are changing and public are realizing it's OK to be uncommon."
