On 'City Song,' Grace VanderWaal Continues to Grow Up Before Our Eyes.

Grace VanderWaal has replaced her signature ukulele with punctuating drums in her new song "City Song," which was published today (Oct. 26), just a week before her debut album, Just the Beginning (out Nov. 3). "City Song," which was provided exclusively to Billboard, exemplifies VanderWaal's diverse vocal range. "Let's take the city and make it our song," she sings with a maturity much above her years.

"Growing up in New York, I always wanted to visit the city but was always disappointed since it is so congested and filthy," the author says, quoting VanderWaal from Billboard. ""However, some songs made it appear absolutely delightful and magnificent." Now that I'm 13, I realize it's not about the city; it's about using your imagination to change things into something beautiful. That was the root of this song's inspiration."
